Wimbledon Introduces Video Review System This Season.

Wimbledon tennis court with replay system

Wimbledon will follow the US and Australian Opens in utilizing video review technology.

Video review technology are set to arrive at The Championships for the 2025 edition.

Competitors are granted the ability to contest particular rulings made by the official, following the protocol currently in place at each of the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.

This technology will be accessible on Centre Court and the number one court throughout the tournament and on the remaining show courts when they are hosting singles contests.

This move follows just a season following the AELTC implemented electronic line calling, which effectively ended the centuries-old tradition of line judges.

What Can Be Reviewed?

Players cannot to challenge the accuracy of the ELC system, but they can ask for the umpire to re-examine specific decisions, such as:

  • Whether a ball has double-bounced.
  • If a ball touched an opponent's racquet or body on the way past.
  • Potential hindrance end of a rally.

Importantly, there will be an unlimited number on the number of challenges a competitor can ask for.

A Recent Example

A recent case occurred in Indian Wells recently, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against his opponent.

Draper conceded it was a difficult call for the official, but thought his opponent had "played the rules effectively."

Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a replay and determined Draper was guilty of interference, granting the point to his opponent.

Growing Trend

This technology aren't new for Grand Slams. It has been in use at the American major for two years and the Australian Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the ATP circuit plans to have the system implemented at all of its tournaments.

Other Changes

Another innovation at Wimbledon 2025 involves the addition of graphical cues on displays to support the verbal announcements from the ELC system.

This addresses situations where the crowd have occasionally been uncertain if a ball was out or in.

Finally, with exactly a century of days remaining until the beginning of the Championships, organizers have further revealed an increase in daily capacity at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
