Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Table

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces expanding in influence within the city.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of heroes who will split off from the central cast to begin their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.

This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might appear mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

First, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the narrative’s action—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The traitor then cleared his debts and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, north of the urban center, with Cyd close behind.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each member has a individual motive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
  • The adventurer knows the northern area and warns that it is a hostile place.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could assist the team access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The grateful character pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the clan.

This results in them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in search of Casimir.

Future Episodes

Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Questers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can look forward to finding out which characters will be where in the season’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on next week.
